SS-31, also known as Elamipretide or MTP-131, is a synthetic mitochondrial-targeting tetrapeptide developed for research on cellular bioenergetics, oxidative stress resistance, and mitochondrial dysfunction.
SS-31 is designed to selectively bind to cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilizing mitochondrial structure and enhancing ATP production. It is widely studied in preclinical models related to aging, cardiac stress, neurodegeneration, and metabolic disorders.
Key Research Areas:
-
Mitochondrial protection and repair
-
Oxidative stress reduction
-
ATP production and bioenergetic function
-
Age-related cellular decline
-
Models of retinal degeneration, cardiac injury, and neurodegeneration
